Quit job in 2016, but still have my 401K. No contributions after 2016. I just check my account balance and log out. Do I have to do anything on this years return?

No. You don't have to do anything unless you had a distribution from the old 401k or rolled it over to a new 401k plan or an IRA. If you decide to do so, make sure to have it rolled over "Trustee to Trustee" (without receiving a physical check) If you did any of these in 2017, you would receive a Form 1099-R to report.
