I pay into a pension as a teacher. This is deducted from my paycheck biweekly. Can I count this on my taxes as paying into retirement?

No, and it is actually already taken into account when you enter your W-2.  

Then someday when you retired a portion of the amount of retirement collected each month will not be taxable to you.
