My wife's deductible IRA contribution places our joint AGI below $189,000, but Turbotax is not letting me contribute a full $6500 to a Roth IRA. Is that right?

As is implied in my question, our AGI before my wife's deductible IRA contribution is above $189,000, and we are married filing jointly.  With her contribution, line 7 on Form 1040 is less than $189,000.  Help!

Yes, that's right.  The modification to AGI for the purpose of a Roth IRA contribution adds back to AGI (Form 1040 line 7) the traditional IRA deduction (Schedule 1 line 32).

Thank you.  I see now that line 4 in Worksheet 2-1 in IRS Publication 590-A specifies that you need to add that back in to the AGI.  All the other items in that list were so oddball that I missed the first one.
