My wife and I both contributed to dependent care benefits / fsa for a total of $10,000. Does turbotax ensure the extra contribution is taxed as it should have been?

My wife and I both contributed to dependent care benefits / fsa for a total of $10,000 which is above the limit of $5000 total. Our w2s reflect the over contribution in box 10. Does turbotax automatically ensure the additional contribution is taxed as it should have been? Is there anything I need to do?

This should automatically be calculated. You will see the extra contribution on your 1040, Line 1e: Taxable dependent care benefits from Form 2441, line 26.

By using the Tax Tools you can take a quick review of your 1040:

To find Tools:

  • Sign into your TurboTax account and open or continue your return.
  • Select Tax Tools in the left menu.
  • You'll find Tools beneath Tax Tools
  • Select View Tax Summary
  • Select Preview My 1040 (left black panel)
