Go with the numbers on the tax form, not the statements.
If you question the differences, contact ETrade.
I've talked to Etrade's tax specialist - here is the problem:
Turbotax is interpreting negative proceeds in Box 1d as positive when importing. I tried to change the number manually but it won't allow negative values for Box 1d (minimum is 0) - Etrade is handling this properly as per IRS' requirement - Turbotax needs to update their software to handle negative proceeds.
It looks like Turbotax has resolved the issue - received an email that this was fixed.
But now I can't e-file - I get this:
One more information -
I printed and reviewed my tax before trying to efile; then I noticed that the form 1099-B which was imported from Etrade didn't print. The numbers are included and calculated as part of the tax but the form is not generated in the PDF. This may help Turbotax to troubleshoot the issue.
I talked to another Turbotax support employee today who has told me that I have to try again Feb 25th 9 PM PDT for this to work so they are definitely aware about the problem, although the information is nowhere to be found.
I tried again after the date give above but still didn't work - no fix is available yet.
