My husband receives military retirement pay but turbo tax wants to put it in as an ira how can i solve this problem

When completing the section for a Form 1099-R you do NOT check the box for IRA/SEP/SIMPLE.  Remove the checkmark for that box.

It should be on 1040 line 5.  Check the little IRA box between boxes 7 & 8 on the 1099R.  It should not be checked.  Or why do you think it says it's a IRA?  Is it asking for the RMD?  Say Yes.   Anything the pension pays you is considered to be the RMD.

Make sure you didn’t check the IRA box in box 7 of your 1099-R.

@VolvoGirl , @Bsch4477 , I suggest avoiding the use of the word 'check.'  Use 'examine' or 'mark' instead.
