My daughter is a grad student and entered her stipend as a 1098-T. This should be taxable income; Turbotax doesn't count it. How do I count it as taxable income for IRA?

A 1098-T is issued by the school, not created by the student, and the student would not include income on the one they receive from the school, other then the Scholarships or grants already on the 1098-T from the school.

But her 1098-T "stipend" is taxable income (this has been confirmed by her university). Why doesn't Turbotax ID this taxable income correctly so that my daughter can put in the correct amount for her Roth IRA? This is a taxable income/Roth IRA question.

Just to clarify, we did not create the 1098-T. We inputted the information from my daughter's actual 1098-T that we received from her University. It's Turbotax that is not identifying the taxable income from the 1098-T correctly.

The taxable income from a stipend , left over after paying eligible expenses such as tuition, should be entered as Miscellaneous taxable income, or Scholarships.  It is not compensation reported on a W-2 and is not eligible as earned income for a contribution to a retirement plan. i <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.irs.gov/publications/p590a#en_US_2018_publink1000230355">https://www.irs.gov/publication...>

The answer assumes the school inlcuded the stipend income in Box 5 as a Scholarship or grant
