My 63yo husband retired in 2013 & rolled over his 401K to IRA. He withdrew $300,000 from his IRA in 2018. I am 61 & worked part time in 2018. Can I contribute to my IRA?

Turbotax program said I couldn't contribute because our joint income was over $199,000 and they said my husband had a retirement plan. My husband no longer has a 401K because he rolled it over into an IRA after retirement. So, maybe my question is really, since he no longer has a 401K plan, does his IRA count as a retirement plan, preventing me from contributing?

since you worked, your permitted contribution is determined by your income and whether your employer offered a retirement Plan (see box on your W-2).

As an aside, $300,000 of 2018 income is going to cost the two of you a lot, taxwise.

yes, we know. Renovated the house last year. Hence the large withdrawal from husband's IRA.
