My 1099-DIV shows the amount in box 1a & b. No distribution was taken, it was automatically reinvested. Can I report the amount & make the adjustment for the same amount?

The dividends are still taxable income even though you chose to reinvest them in additional shares of stock or mutual funds.

Just enter the 1099-DIV as you received it and do not make any "adjustment" for the dividends.
