Checking the Maryland 502 instructions gives this brief response to a sample question shown there:
"1. Pension Exclusion.
Q: Can I claim both pensions exclusions, the standard on
line 10a and the Retired Forest/ Park/ Wildlife Ranger on
line 10b of Form 502?
A: No. You may only claim one pension exclusion per
individual based on age. See instructions 13 for details."
Highly recommend obtaining a copy of the Maryland instructions. TurboTax does not restrict you from having entries in both boxes. I tried having values in each box and it radically changed my Maryland tax refund. TurboTax also does not allow you to choose which entry would lower you state tax liability. Hope this helps!
We have reviewed the issue and have requested additional information be added to the learn more function, stating you can only claim one exclusion for pension. The software should be updated soon with additional information.
