It can be a traditional or Roth IRA depending if it is funded with pre- or post tax dollars.

American Funds Target Date Funds are mutual funds. They can be held within an IRA, within some other type of retirement account or outside of a retirement account, so knowing that you have an investment in this fund doesn't tell you if it's in an IRA or not. You need to look to see how the account that holds this investment is titled.
