I made a contribution to a Roth IRA by mistake. Immediately took it out. Looks like part of it is taxable even though I am over 59.5 threshold for 'early' withdrawals?

In order for a distribution from a Roth IRA account the be free of penalties and taxes, you must meet two conditions. 1 - be over the age of 59.5 and 2 - have held the IRA for 5 years.  Since you meet one of these requirements (over 59.5) but not the other, then your withdrawal is free from penalty, but earnings will be subject to taxes.
