In my Fed return I see my wife's additional income on line 6 (then added to line 1). This income is taxed on line 11. Why am I taxed again on line 14 on same income?

Line 14 on Form 1040 is other Taxes from Schedule 4. If you or your wife had self-employment income then the self-employment tax is on Schedule 4 line 57. This is carried over to line 14 on Form 1040.
