You need the date. Look in your records or you can select Various if you sold shares that were bought more than 1 time.
You have to look at all the detail sheets and the purchase dates for that sale. If you bought some shares over 1 year and some less than 1 year you have to split them up into 2 sales for Short Term and Long Term. Then you can use Various. Or if it is one purchase put in the date.
You cannot leave the "Date Acquired" field blank, and there is no "Blank" entry. If you don't know the date the you acquired the security, and it's been more than a year since you acquired it (two if it is from Employer Stock Plan), then you can estimate. You can also use "Various, but be sure to to indicate whether it is Long Term or Short Term correctly.
