Im getting a flag to check my 1099-R saying my gross NY State tax witholdings cannot be greater than my gross distrubution, and it is not. it's correct as per my 1099-R.

It imported the data the same as what was on the form, I kept NY taxes out on the distribution from my rollover, and it is 5% of what the gross distrubition is, and the error is saying it's the same or more!?

Go back and check the 1099R box 16 for state wages.   That is usually wrong.   If it’s wrong or missing put the amount from box 1 into box 16.

The solution was you need to put the gross distribution from box 1 into the 16 State distribution field -- which my 1099 has blank, but apparently needs to be filled in. At least this was my case with FIDELITY. Thank you to ChatGPT for explaining the problem and solution.
