If you are retired from the military and live in SC, you are entitled to a $10,000.00 tax break. Where do I put this on my S.C. tax form?

If you are retired from the military and live in SC, you are entitled to a $10,000.00 tax break. Where do I put this on my S.C. tax form?

You would first need to enter your Form 1099-R information under the Federal section.  The program will transfer the info over to the state section.  Then you would go to the State section to make an adjustment.  Here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign in to your TurboTax account and select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in "1099r" and Enter
  • Select Jump to 1099r
  • Follow prompts

To adjust information in the State section, follow here:

  • In the left, select State
  • Next screen, select South Carolina and Start ( Make sure you select South Carolina as your state and mailing address under My Info)
  • Follow prompts
  • On-screen, Military Retirement Income, follow prompts
