I have a full time job and three side gigs. They all charge the correct percent, its just that taken together the amount that went to social security is too much. Not sure which one to contact about this.
If you had three separate employers with a different EIN for each employer and the total of all the Social Security taxes withheld was more than $8,853.60 then the excess taxes will be entered on your federal tax return Schedule 3 Line 11 and Form 1040 Line 31 as a tax payment.
You don't need to take any action. TurboTax will automatically add the excess to your federal refund or subtract it from federal taxes you owe, whichever applies.
The excess will appear as a tax credit on Line 11 of your Form 1040, Schedule 3.
Can I get a refund for excess Social Security tax withheld?
If you have one employer who over-withholds, you must get a refund from that employer. But if you are over-withhold because you have several jobs, and the total is over the limit even though the individual jobs are under the limit, the refund will be on your tax return.
