If it’s saying I filed form 8959 but didn’t, how can I fix this? Requiring me to purchase deluxe but I feel that’s unnecessary.

I went to finalize my filing and it popped up saying it can’t file because I don’t have a simple return and filed form 8959, which I wasn’t aware of… really strange. When I looked up what it is, it showed income limits way over mine, filing Medicare taxes that were high or putting wrong info in forms but I double checked and it’s all correct. Just really confused because this is the first time this is happening.

You are seeing this because the amount of Medicare taxes withheld in box 6 is Not exactly 1.45% of the Medicare wages in box 5.  Remove any cents for the Medicare wages and see if the upgrade message goes away.

OR -

Delete the w-2 and re-enter.  Make sure the amount in box 6 is 1.45% or less of the amount in box 5.

Try leaving the cents off of the Medicare tax on your W2 box 6.   Box 6 has to be exactly 1.45% of box 5 or less.
