If I took money out of my 401k at the beginning of this year, do I have to report on my taxes form the w-2 of last year? Or do I have to wait till next year?

If you made a withdrawal from the 401(k) on or after January 1, 2024 the distribution is reported on your 2024 tax return to be filed in 2025.

If you took money from a 401k in 2023 you are going to get a 1099R which must be entered on your 2023 tax return.   Those are usually sent by late January or early February.  If they do not mail it to you, you might need to go on their website to get it.

To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
