If I sent my check for my 2017 IRA contribution today can I now submit my tax return or do I have to wait until the check is processed by the broker to submit my return?

You do not need to wait for the check to be processed. In fact, you can make the IRA contribution at any time before April 17, 2018.

You can e-file your return once it is complete.
