If I entered 1099-R for a pension. (indicating that the IRA box was NOT checked) why was I asked questions as if it were an IRA distribution, such as "was this an RMD?"

TurboTax was asking the question because pensions also have a required minimum distribution. Please be assured that TurboTax is treating you distribution as a pension if the IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box is NOT marked.
