If I didn't receive a 1099-S form, what is the benefit of including it in my return?

We sold our house but had no gains to claim. Should we include the sale of our home on our return? It says it's not required.

If you qualify for the capital gain exclusion, you do not have to report the gain on the sale of your personal residence on your federal tax return unless the gain on the sale was greater then the exclusion, you rented out the house at some time, you took a home office deduction, or you received a Form 1099-S for the sale of the home. There is no need to report the sale unless one of these conditions applies to the sale.
