If I am on Social Security and single, am I eligible for EITC? I live in California.

I don't have to file a tax return because I am on Social Security and receive $1,154 monthly. I understand I may be eligible for EITC.

Social security benefits do not count as earned income for the earned income credit on their own. If that is the only income you received during the year, you are not eligible for the credit.

However, You can elect to use your 2019 earned income to figure your 2021 earned income credit (EIC) if your 2019 earned income is more than your 2021 earned income.

Please check the link below for more information:

Can I get a bigger refund or have less tax due if I use my 2019 Earned income to calculate EIC?
