I took more than the RMD. Do I check "the entire distribution was RMD" or "only part of this distribution was a RMD" Question seems backwards!

You would indicate that only part of the distribution was an RMD. After you check this box, the program will ask you how much of it is an RMD. This way, the IRS will know if you received the full amount of your RMD.
