I removed money from my retirement in June 2016 to pay a downpayment on a new home. I am not finding anywhere that I can list that as a reason that I withdrew the money.

Is there no place to indicate that I used the money for that purpose?

No. It doesn't matter what you did with the money. Buying a house is only an exception to an IRA (not a 401k) early withdrawal penalty. Or did you take it out of an IRA?
