I (recipient) received a 1099-Q with box 6 marked 'recipient isn't the designtd benefcy'. We use the money to pay students housing expense. Is this added to my income?

No, not if it was used to pay for Room and Board for the student.

You needn't enter the 1099-Q if the full distribution was used to pay room and board at the school (or even offsite housing, but only up to the cost the school would have charged)

Ok, thank you.  I figured the IRS would expect me to enter the 1099-Q info or otherwise think I failed to report the info.  Yes, we used it all for room and board and was less than what our student would have paid the university for on-campus room & board.
