My wife and I retired and moved to TX from CA in 2017. We filed our 2017 taxes in CA, and now have lived in TX all of 2018. Since our SSA and retirement income come from CA do we need to file CA state tax?

No, if you lived in Texas all year, there is no need to file a return for California. Retirement income MAY be taxable in the state where you live. Since Texas has no state income tax, you will not pay any state tax on your SSA and retirement income.
