I received a SSA-1099-SM, not have a 1099-R. The 1099R form keeps coming up to be filled out. What to do? Are they the same?

No, the forms are different. The Form 1099-R may have been inadvertently added to the tax return. Please take the steps below to delete the Form 1099-R.

1. Open your return in TurboTax. (To do this, sign in to TurboTax, and select the Take me to my return button.)
2. In the left side bar, select Tax Tools> Tools.
3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
4. Select Delete next Form 1099-R and follow the onscreen instructions.

Once you have deleted the 1099-R, please follow the steps below to enter the Form SSA-1099sm:

Sign into your Online account and select Take me to my return

2. Select Federal in the left side panel.

3. Next select Income & Expenses at the top.

4. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security

5. Select Start/Revisit next to Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099)

6. Follow the onscreen instructions to enter the form.
