I received $5,119.38 as one of two beneficiaries of my deceased mother's life insurance policy. Of that amount, $47.18 was interest. Is the entire amount considered as

income or just the interest part?

Only the interest is taxable income.  The death benefit from a life insurance policy is not taxable income.
