If your only income is from Social Security as reported on Form SSA-1099, then you probably do not need to file a tax return.

To be sure, you could start your return using TurboTax Online Free edition, or any of the other versions.  The program will give you guidance about whether you even need to file a return.  If it turns out that you do not need to file, then there will be no fees charged.  You are only charged to use the online version of TurboTax if you actually file a tax return.
