If you only get Social Security you do not have to file a return. It is not taxable and there is no benefit in claiming dependents or deductions. And you can't efile a return with zero taxable income. If you want to file you have to print and mail your return.
Under the new tax laws, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's or Short Form. Everything goes on a little Form 1040 that has six extra "schedules" with it. The new 1040 is 2 half pages but now print on 1 sheet with the Signature line in the Middle. You can still use the Free Edition.
