I need to declare a cancellation of debt (line 21 on 1040), but when I try to do it Turbo Tax forces me to answer questions about my 1099-C. I do not have the 1099-C.

How can I just skip to tend and put in the amount I need to declare?

The instruction to enter a cancelled debt can be done another way and the steps are included for you.  If you don't have a Form 1099-C the assumption is that it is below $600.00.

While you are logged into your TurboTax Premier (online or desktop) account follow the steps.

  1. Choose the Federal Taxes tab
  2. Wages & Income
  3. Scroll to Less Common Income
  4. Select Miscellaneous Income
  5. Select Other reportable income
  6. Enter the description and amount (image attached)
