I need a more simple explanation on this question "Do you want to apply your refund to next year's return?" ?

It means Do you want to leave all or part of your refund with the IRS or state and apply it to next year's tax return you do in 2027. Most people don't want to do that and want to get their refund now. So say NO, not to apply it.

This question is for people that pay estimated taxes.

• If you expect to owe more taxes then you had withheld for next year (2026), this is an option.
• It simply will allocate an amount, or the entire refund to next year's taxes.
• If you got a refund this year, and you expect the same next year, you don't have to use this option.
