I m on disability income and I paid over 70% of my income to child support and I wanna know what exactly is it that I need to do to get some money back

You're not able to do anything to get back the child support money or get a federal refund due to the child support payments you made.

  • According to IRS rules, child support received doesn't count as taxable income, nor can you deduct any child support payments you make.

However, handful of states have rules that differ from the IRS. If your state is one of them, we'll cover that when you prepare your state tax return.
