I'm experiencing a greyed out box when attempting to type in "Boxes 15-17" on W-2. What is causing this?

I'm experiencing a greyed out box when attempting to type in "Boxes 15-17" and "18-20" under "State and Local Wage information" on the W-2 section. I have no way of adding in any information into this field. What could cause this and what could remedy this?

I recommend reviewing your input to ensure your information for your state is entered correctly.

In the My Info section of TurboTax, confirm that you have entered the correct state information:

  1. Click Edit to the right of your name
  2. Confirm your input under #2 Tell us the state(s) you lived in
  3. Go back to the personal information section, and verify the mailing address and "Other state income" section.  Be sure to answer yes to the question asking "Did you make money in any other states" if you lived in a state without income taxes but earned income in another state.
  4. Then go back into your W-2 input screen and enter your state wages for the applicable W-2

If the steps above do not resolve your issue, you can also delete the input for the W-2.  Many times this will rectify the issue and allow you to enter the W-2 in full.

  1. Go to the Federal section of the program.
  2. Select Income & Expenses
  3. Select Job (W-2)
  4. Select the little trash can icon to the right of the applicable W-2 entry
  5. You can then proceed to Add a W-2 to reenter your W-2 information again
  6. Proceed to enter your information as prompted
