I have not received my 1099 yet and have contacted my employer. He told me the amount he has recorded for me but doesn't know when I'll be receiving a 1099. What to do?

You can prepare your return without a 1099.

You should still ask your 1099 employer to email you a statement containing your 1099 information.

Just make sure that when you do receive your 1099 it is the same number you used to file your tax return with.

If it is different, you will have to amend. The IRS will also receive this 1099 misc information and compare it to your tax return to see if you claimed it.

If you do not receive any tax forms (1099-MISC or 1099-K), you can report your self-employed income as a lump sum under Additional Income.

  • Select Federal Taxes tab
  • Wage & Income
  • Scroll to Business Income
  • Enter a business name, go through business profile set up ( you can use your name or make up a name)
  • Follow the prompts to enter your income and expense for this activity (if you have any)
  • Chose Additional Income to add your cash, or money earned without a 1099
