I have entered a 1099R form but am finding the federal tax due is the wrong %

The Gross Distribution was $6634 and Fed withheld was $1327. Once I enter the 1099R in Turbo Tax, I owe a further $2115 in Federal Tax. This makes my tax paid on this amount above 50%

When you enter the 1099-R including the amount of tax withheld, you get credit for that tax on your tax return. The amount of tax you must actually pay on the distribution may be more or less than the amount withheld but the actual change is only the difference between what was withheld and what the tax is after entering the distribution.

Think of it the same as you think of withholding on your W-2.

Thank you. But is there a reason why the amount of tax I had to pay on this 1099R has jumped to over 50%?

Did you take the distribution before you were age 59 1/2? If so, you owe a 10% early withdrawal penalty in addition to ordinary income tax. Are you subtracting the amount of tax withheld in determining how much total tax you are paying? What is your total taxable income after deductions and exemptions?

I get it now. Its added as an income. The 10% additional tax would have been $664 plus it got added to the overall income which meant there was more tax to pay in total. thanks for your help
