I have a question about my retirement. I started a new job and when I left my old job I cashed out my retirement. is that retirement distribution included on my W-2?

I worked for a city and I had a deferred comp plan and got a 1099R for that but nothing for the city retirement plan

No, retirement distribution is not reflected on your W-2, Form 1099-R reports any distributions from retirement plans. Your W-2 form will only include the gross wages that you received while working there.

In other words, you should have a W-2 for your old job, 1099-R with retirement distribution (which you have) and a W-2 for a new job.

1099-R is entered differently than w-2 form. Please follow data entry steps:

  1. Federal Taxes
  2. Wages and Income
  3. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
  4. Select IRA, 401(k), Pension Plans (1099-R)
