I had a simple IRA. I made no contributions and did not get a payout. I changed it to a traditional IRA at the end of December. Do I need to report this on my taxes?

Normally not.

You should have done a rollover from the Simple IRA to a traditional IRA. If so, this would be a tax-free event. Did you contact the administrator for your SIMPLE IRA to execute the rollover?

Please see "Transfers from SIMPLE IRAs".

Also, did you receive a 1099-R for this transaction? If so, you should enter it into TurboTax, but I assume that the distribution code would indicate that the entry is non-taxable.

Thank you for your answer.

I did contact the administrator to initiate the rollover. Later when I went on my account I was told that I would not be receiving any tax paperwork. I have not received a 1099-R.

So I don't need to enter this amount anywhere?

That is correct. This kind of rollover is not a taxable event, which is why administrators don't bother sending out 1099-Rs.

You have nothing to enter into TurboTax.
