Is this a death benefit?  Did you get a 1099R?

it was a life insurance payout from my mothers death. i had a 1099-int, which i did enter under income

Good news, the life insurance benefits are not taxable income and do not need to be entered anywhere on the tax return.

The interest income does, which you already did.

If it was an annuity with an insurance company that would have had to be reported also, but not life insurance.
