Check your entries, and complete the TurboTax interview questions after the W-2 entry. When properly entered, W-2 forms that report more than $132,900 of box 3 income and more than $8,239 of box 4 social security withholding should generate an entry on Schedule 3 Part II line 11.
Thanks David, may be this is the issue for a single w2 the total isn't above 132,900. but total SSN withhold for both is more than 13,000
First, check to be sure both W-2s are shown as being for you and not your spouse (if applicable). Also, be sure that the W-2s have different Federal ID numbers.
If both W-2s happen to have the same Federal ID number, then TurboTax will treat that as a single employer and the excess amount will not automatically be refunded as part of your tax return.
There is a more complex procedure to follow for getting a refund of the excess tax that was withheld.
The following TurboTax article will describe the steps you need to take in detail, with links to the Form 843 that needs to be filed and sent separately to the IRS.
Click the Single Employer link within the article and follow the instructions under the section What if my employer can't or won't cooperate?
Following these instructions should allow you to go ahead and e-file your return, with a request for refunding the excess taxes submitted separately.
Can I get a refund for excess Social Security tax withheld?
Thanks for the replies, Turns out that the SSN tax was not auto imported correctly from one of my 2 W2s.
