Your pension income is reported on a Form 1099-R you would receive from the pension company. You need to enter that in TurboTax and answer some questions about it in the program. Based on the entries in the boxes on your Form 1099-R and your answer to those questions TurboTax will determine if the income is taxable.

  1. Go to the personal income section of TurboTax
  2. Find the Retirement Plans and Social Security menu option in the Wages and Income section of TurboTax
  3. Start or Update IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
  4. Choose Add Form1099-R
