I don't see any "lump-sum section" in my SSA-1099 form. There is an asterisk to the Box 3 amount with a footnote: "*includes $750.80 paid in 2023 for 2022". Lump sum?

I'm trying to answer the dialog questions in Turbo Tax and am not sure whether I should enter this asterisked amount as a "limp-sum" Social Security payment or not.

You only need to enter the amount in box 5 on your tax return.  The box 5 amount is the result of box 3 minus box 4.  When asked if you received a lump sum in 2023 answer No.

the lump-sum election means you allocate all the money to the current tax year (2023).

It is the simplest method.

THe amount involved in prior year(s) is small enough that you probably won't see a difference in the two methods.

Otherwise, you need  a copy of the 2022 tax return to go through the other method.
