I didn't contribute to an IRA, but TurboTax believes I did and wants me to pay tax on excess contributions.

I did contribute to a 401k, but not an IRA.

Did you enter anything in the IRA contribution section?  If so remove it.  A 401(k) is only reported by your employer in box 12 on your W-2 - no where else.
