You must ask the employer what they consider the minimum retirement age; unless you can find it in your personal documents you might have received from your employer. You can't just guess that. In general, the minimum retirement age is the earliest age that you are eligible to receive a pension or annuity from your employer. Most often it is the age of 55, but it can vary from one employer to another.
Thank you. I wanted to make sure you understand my situation. Air Traffic Controllers (which I was) have the same retirement age qualifications as Fed Police/Firemen which is 20 years service at age 50 or any age with 25 years service.
I would have had 25 years service at age 48. Is it possible that MRA fluctuates based on an individuals personal hire age? Again, this isn't a "normal" FERS retirement. I have been fretting over this for years. I am not sure that I may have been able to say I was over my MRA for 8 years now! 🙂
Thanks again!
Air Traffic Controllers are relatively unique because of that "you are required to retire at 56" thing. That allows them to retire after 25 years of service no matter what their age.
Minimum age to become an ATC is 18. Minimum retirement age would be 43.
