You do not have to check off that you are retired anywhere. When it asks for your "occupation" you can use "Retired" if you want to. The IRS does not use that information for anything that affects your tax due or refund.
Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.
To enter your retirement income, Go to Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA 401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
You don't get any tax advantages by being retired per se. You may get some advantages by being retirement age or receiving retirement income such as Social Security and pension income. You will get those advantages automatically by virtue of your age and the type of income you enter into TurboTax.
