I am entering a govt retirement pension and there is no IRA/SEP/SIMPLE box to check.

it is not an ira am I entering it in the wrong place?

You are entering it in the correct place.

If it is pension it is not an IRA/SEP.SIMPLE so that box is not checked, and TurboTax will then know it is not one of those.
