Husband lived in GA for 17 days. GA is trying to tax him for the entire year on his 1099. State of residence was changed. How do I separate the states (1099, 1098)?

How do we get separate credit for the mortgage and property taxes paid in GA, it's calculating everything into our current state of residency.

Can you please clarify- was your husband a RESIDENT of Georgia?  Did he work in Georgia?  What is your current state of residency?

He retired from the military in GA but moved to AR for a job last January. I was able to fix the pension issue on the GA tax form. My only question now is that we seem to have received credit on the AR tax return and not the GA tax form for the property taxes and interest payments for the house in GA (it was sold). Is this normal?

No, the property taxes should be allocated to the state that they occurred in.

  • You may be able to adjust this on the state summary page under Adjustments.
  • If this doesn't work you will have to go through both states' interviews.
