While preparing 2024 returns, discovered that Roth conversion from 403b (in contrast to IRA) counts toward MAGI threshold for Roth contributions. So we had to recharacterize 2024 contributions from Roth to Traditional IRAs. This was accomplished before April 15, 2025. I know we reported the 2024 contributions because they were added to basis on 2024 forms 8606 and I also see explanation statements when I look at Forms in TurboTax 2024. Because the recharacterizations occurred in 2025, we received the corresponding 1099Rs in 2025. We also received 1099Rs for our backdoor Roth conversions of the recharacterized amounts + our 2025 traditional IRA contributions.
All the above mentioned 1099Rs were imported to TurboTax 2025.
1. TurboTax alerted me to the possible need to amend our 2024 return. Is anything further needed for the 2024 return or did we already handle reporting it correctly?
2. Is there anything further to do/explain on the 2025 return regarding the recharacterized 2024 contributions? When asked what year is on the 1099R, I answered 2025. There was no question asking what year the contribution was for.
Thanks in advance for clarifying the process,
MJ

Assuming you reported everything properly on your 2024 return, there is nothing further you need to do. I am also assuming that when you input the 2025 Form 1099-R's in TurboTax that the entries did not result in the reporting of income that belonged in 2024, most likely by the use code "P" in box 7.
They had code R as the distributions were recharacterizations that went directly into traditional IRA accounts.
