Did you personally have two or more employers in 2021 with different Employer EIN's and the total of all Social Security taxes withheld was over $8,853.60?
It depends.
If you worked for multiple employers, the excess will appear as a tax credit on Line 11 of your Form 1040, Schedule 3.
If you worked for one employer, you won't be able to take a credit for the excess on your tax return. Therefore, do not file with excess withholdings on your return, as you may be subjected to penalties and interest. Instead, if one employer withheld too much, please contact them and ask them for a refund of the excess amount and a corrected W-2 (W-2c), which shows the correct Box 3 and Box 4 amounts.
